How to ensure downloaded software security?

Hello,

I always try to run the download .exe / installation files in a virtual environment or sandbox like to limit as much as possible - within my limited technical knowledge - trojan or virus risks.

What other security methods you use and would recommend to get closer to 100% safety of downloaded applications?

I confirm virustotal is good, there are many other websites. It is possible to run the software on a virtual machine

Once you’ve found a reputable site to download your software and you’ve hit the download button, you’re still going to have to install the program. Here are a few quick tips for when you’re at the final stage.

1. Make sure your active malware or virus scanner has scanned the file

 

2. During installation, always choose the “Custom” installation process

 

3. Avoid giving out your email address during installation if you can
