chaka
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... Scalping is no different than any other technical trading, it is just done on shorter time frames. I think the broad availability of free live data feeds such as Metatrader is motiviating traders to move to shorter time frames generally. In the past, to trade intraday required purchasing Tradestation and paying $100's per month in fees for live data feeds. That kept most people trading on end-of-day data. Is it a waste of time? All trading is a waste of time and money unless you are consistently profitable. I spent a lot of time learning technical analysis chart patterns. But I find that in Forex, the patterns are getting "mushy", carrying less meaning than before. For example, a trend line breakout used to be a reliable signal that the market was going to continue to move vigorously in the direction of the breaout. But In Forex I see trend lines break out, and some of the time they break back in again and resume! So the line is indistinct, mushy soft, rather than a hard and distinct pattern. I think that the reason why the patterns are becoming less distinct is the proliferation of automated trading. Trading robots don't "think" or react like human traders, so the chart patterns they create become less meaningful, less distinct. All that is a long way of saying that trading longer term time frames may not be as profitable as it once was, which prompts traders to move to shorter time frames. I.e. scalping. I think that the ideal time frame to trade is not so long that you have to wait through days and days of drawdowns to see your position in profit, and not so short that there is no signal for your indicators, just noise. cr-redfox, sounds mighty fine, I'm a FAP user too, but lately the market has not been so benign during the overnight session. What are you trading now, if not scalping/FAP? regards, Chaka
scouseman
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... I have always found that with automated scalping stratagies the difference between demo testing and live test is immense. On the demo there is very little slippage once you move onto the live account the slippage can wipe out most of your profits. I much pefer manual scalping at least you are in control of the trades and you can choose if and when to take a trade, but this requires a great deal of skill. scouseman

Newbie123
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... Personally I believe scalping can work but it require alot of screen time and quick fingers. Tried it last time but its simply too mentally tiring. johndata
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... Scalping needs many hours in front of the screen. Needs discipline to close the bad trades, so it's not for a newbie. At last but most important you must have a system that wins more than 70-80%, as the spread is against you. If you go for 5 pips with 1 pip spread you pay the broker 20%, if you go for 10 pips you pay 10% e.t.c. I don't know a single trader how succeded over the years trading only with a scalping system John
brtan
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... I have tried a few 5 mins scalping manual system. It is definitely not simple. If you trade during asian time .. the movement can be very slow and once you missed the signal you might not have a lot of entries. London and US session I tried without much success till now

svyelun
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... scalping is a oppisited action to the human mind. maybe in 10 trade, the scalping win 5, lose 5. but if lose 5 happens first and continuing, human mind can not be accecpt. then maybe give up the trade. of course, the last 5 win can not be got. posterx
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... Try 10/21 EMA on 10Min chart with MACD settings (5,13,1) and ADX (14). It works great.
RFX
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... For scalping you just need following things. Just use trendline formation and breake on 5min to 15min. Observe 3 to 5 pair in that group. say you are trading EU. ensure atlest 3 pair moving in same direction EU , EJ, EC, EUR pair. sabtron
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... I have looked at Scalping in depth. Here and there you find some really good ideas, products and services. What worries me about scalping is of this is NOT automated....unless you are super consistant...one will not be able to have for example a 3:1 win to loss ration all the time. From what I understand you need to have consistant results to call it a system...else it is gambling. What do you think? It is about time you visit Cyrox.com they are the master of scalping currently as far as I know... Scalping does not have to be in Lower TF. I scalp in D1 and H4 and yes it is profitable... At the same time I trade longer tooo. Just Rethink and find what works for u Regards

abba
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... If you like fast in fast out, are quick with the trigger, you can make it work - otherwise it is a waste of time. You have to practice a lot of trades to get good at seeing a trade and hitting the button - until it is programmed in your subconscious mind.... it is not a waste of time - but it takes a lot of work and practice more than most people are willing to put in. Btw it's on TF 15 Minutes rite? Ok.The 10/21 crossover will give buy/sell signals. MACD should be crossing above/below 0 level. ADX should be rising above 20 for strong trend. If you have missed the crossover signal, wait for a retrace to 10/21 EMA. Usually most powerful trends do retrace at least to the 10EMA. Then you enter. The exit signal can be a break of the 21EMA or better, an opposite crossover. I use this 10Min system in conjunction with a 1HR system to get the broader picture. itrader
Re: Scalping...is this a waste of time or can you.... I don't believe that it's possible to do scalping without having a robot.. It's just too time consuming to watch the trades. You can't even put a SL and TP in the trade as it will be to close with your price and most brokers will reject your SL and TP points.
