There is no "silver bullet" or "holy grail" system or indicator. I've not asked for William's system, though I've seen systems before which can be profitable over 30 years and they are losing for 20 of those years lol. Would you have the trading discipline to keep on trading a system for the next 20 years because you know that after then you're likely to become a multi-millionaire very quickly ;) ?

 

Because the the forex market is made up of stacks of people trading (whether they be specialist speculators or bank traders placing orders on behalf of corporate clients etc.) it means it will be just as unpredictable as all the people you know.

 

The greed and fear concept doesn't only apply to traders like you and me, it actually applies to the whole market, precisely because the market is made up of people like you and me lol.

 

The main reason why everyone new to the new market is told to practice, blow your account several times, try lots of systems etc. is not because the market is so tricky to master it's because you have to master your own handle on greed and fear (aka "trading psychology").

 

I've spent a lot of time looking at different systems trading in demo and in live and I can say that in general there are plenty of good systems out there, the key thing you need to be searching for is not the system which you think may be going to make you a fortune, but the system which you feel happy trading.

 

I personally hate systems which have too many indicators and I typically end up ignoring all the setups and the indicators because I don't trust the indicators. However, if your trading style is to mainly trade on price action, but very occasionally you check on the odd indicator as a confirmation of entry, then that could work nicely - only if it suits your trading personality.

 

I think I could name a lot of systems which will make you consistent gains. The problem is that everyone will trade them in a different way. There are systems which have shown through backtesting and forward trading over several years that they will increase your account several hundred percent per year, however on occasion you have to handle losing months ! How many of you guys could handle that ? Would you still keep on trading that system after a month of losses ? That's where the discipline and psychology comes in.

 

As has been said by many before, Forex trading isn't a sprint it's a marathon. Don't go looking for a "Holy Grail", instead you need to find a system which is more of a soul partner, i.e. a system which you can feel so comfortable and confident trading that you can still trust it when you go through the inevitable losing periods which all systems have :)

 

This is exactly the stage I'm at now with my trading. I've stacks of trading systems which are profitable under certain market conditions and the only thing I need to control is my urge to scrap systems which are working well when they go through bad periods. The more you trade, the more you realise it's all in your head lol.

 

[edit] It's true that some of the oldest tactics are the best. I've found that all the best systems are based on some sort of breakout concept.
