Volatility is a statistical measure of the dispersion of returns for a given security or market index. Volatility can either be measured by using the standard deviation or variance between returns from that same security or market index. Commonly, the higher the volatility, the riskier the security. But with Trade12 I face no technical problems like dealing desk, reqoutes and slippage when volatility is available in market.

Practice in demo account is very important for early preparation, yes this can being one reason why many beginner trader get fail in real trading, because they not learn seriously in demo account and only trade in real account without experience in demo, and because their desired to make quick profit but lack in experience.

Yes you are right variance is a direct measure of risk and diversification is a best way to diminish them to 0. But it essentially means your profit with also shrink to zero that's why I take some risk using leverage on my Hotforex platform.
