Just a comment on your last statement. The ad-hoc rules based on "current market conditions" I was referring to could be the manual traders understanding of the current market based on any number of inputs and consequently very hard to formalize. If not formalized, it would be close to impossible to retrieve that information. However, as you said, if he/she evaluates current market depending on some external information that could be formalized then we would be able to query that.
 
And taking the subject further for the fun of it...if we had a large trading history of the manual trader and as much formal rules a possible we could have the ea adapt to the trading "style" of the manual trader. Ie, using artificial intelligence, the ea could learn to trade like the manual trader and consequently fill in the missing informal rules. But now its not exactly simple ea coding any more :)

Coding - easy
Translating manual trading to formal rules can be hard if the manual trader doesn't follow a complete strict set of rules. I guess many manual traders have trading systems following a simple set of rules. However, that might or might not realize that they in practice use an additional set of ad-hoc rules based on "current market condition". The process of formalizing these additional and crucial rules is probably the hardest part.
 
Should be rewarding for a manual trader to do this as he can learn exactly how the manual trading strategy rules works formally.

Broker arbitrage. Save your time and money. This will work extremely well on demo accounts as there is little or no slippage. Works in theory on live accounts even with slippage but only on bucketshop accounts. And they will not allow you to profit from it for long if at all. They'll add time to your orders when they find that you are profitable and that will definitely kill the arbitrage. I once drew up a live micro account several hundred percent in only a few hours. However, before I understood that the broker had added a few seconds to my orders I was back to square one.
 
How about ECN accounts? Well, yes, if you can find the right combo of brokers and execution environment it could work. However, realize that you are now getting close to the hft arena of the big boys. Good luck with that Sir ;)

Also, in order to eliminate false signals and choppy conditions, remember to always use the highly correlated pairs to confirm the trade. especially for Renko charts and the Range charts. They are very good at spotting the correlations among highly correlated pairs.
 
For example, if you trade EURUSD, you should also use the Range bar charts of GBPUSD and AUDUSD side by side for confirmation. All these three pairs are highly correlated and especially for Range bar charts, they should have the similar Range bar shapes, eliminating much noise of time-based charts.
 
So, only take the signals when all three correlated pairs have the similar trend/signal. In doing so, you should be able to eliminate a lot of false signals and avoid tons of choppy conditions.
 
Hope this helps. You can also use the inverse correlated pairs like USDCHF for confirmation, etc. A lot of screen time is needed to get a good feeling of avoiding choppy conditions eliminating false signals.
 
Also, if possible, try to trade only the Europe session and USA session when the liquidity and volatility are ample.

I decided to create a "holy grail" EA that would perform nearly perfect in a backtest with 99% tickdata and it had to be completely harmless. I created this EA for Jason Fielder's Correlation Code Follow the Leader strategy. I also included the manual for the manual trading method. I am new to programming so don't over expect. I have forward tested it with good success . It is slow and uses a lot of resources and doesn't trade too often due to the rules and the fact that it is looking at two pairs.

This is the best info. I've seen concerning correlation with regard to trading crosses, thanks to a poster on another forum:
 
Example: GBPUSD candles moving up STRONG and USDCHF candles moving UP STRONG = GBPCHF moving up STRONG (Actually this means that the USD is getting weak against the GBP and at the same time the USD is getting strong against the CHF) Interpret: Candles on BOTH GBPUSD and USDCHF are moving up together strong = STRONG move up on GBPCHF (but, at almost 1.7:1 ratio!! GBPJPY doing this is almost a 2:1 ratio!)

The 9 Strength-Weakness Correlation positions:

1. GBP/USD Up and USD/CHF Up - Cross will move UP STRONG (Primary trade objective moves)
2. GBP/USD Down and USD/CHF Down - Cross will move DOWN STRONG (Primary trade objective moves)

3. GBP/USD Up and USD/CHF Down equally - Cross will REMAIN FLAT (Don’t trade these moves)
4. GBP/USD Down and USD/CHF Up equally - Cross will REMAIN FLAT (Don’t trade these moves)


5. GBP/USD Up and USD/CHF FLAT - Cross will move UP MODERATELY (Can bring decent profits)
6. GBP/USD FLAT and USD/CHF Up - Cross will move UP MODERATELY (Can bring decent profits)

7. GBP/USD Down and USD/CHF FLAT - Cross will move DOWN MODERATELY (Can bring decent profits)
