  1. Re: show us your best trending ea

I haven't seen any profitable EAs that trade trends. I tried making one, but it pretty much gets raped in a sideways market and the only way to make it profitable is to curve fit it on past data. Basically, without an extremely solid exit strategy, it's useless. Not to mention that good exit strategies that worked in 2005-2007 no longer work at all in 2008-2009. In addition, I strongly doubt that you will find one that works in a timeframe lower than 1h (I mean one that does multiple trades per day) - in my experience, timeframes such as M15 are going to chop-chop your account to pieces if you try to trade their trends, be it manually or automatically. These being said, I'd really love to be proven wrong by a profitable trend-trading EA, even if it's using helper strategies for steady markets.

  2. Re: Megadroid Pro V1.01 Needs to be cracked

The DLL included here crashed MT 225. Substituted the DLL from MDPro 1.0 and all is well.

    FWIW YMMV

You are correct, it did crash MT in some cases. It's been 10 years since I used to do this kind of stuff and I guess I'm a little rusty... I wrote some code over a relocation area which is why it only crashed on some machines, but not on the 2 machines I tested it on. Oh well, guess that won't make much sense to many :)

Anyway, the fixed version is at http://[email protected]/file/126475359/fae91a98/

Apologies to those for whom the previous version crashed.

  3. Re: [need to educated the dll] Pipmaster

Well, I wish I had looked at bbrain's dll before removing the protection from scratch.

Basically, your back tests didn't work because they're kind of disabled from the DLL, you can only backtest very short periods of time (600 bars I believe). As others said, this EA checks the license key with their server and receives back 4 things:

    1. Whether the license key is valid or not.

    2. Whether it should trade or not (this is probably time-based, if you look at the logs on their site, you can probably extrapolate the trade time interval and write it in the mq4).

    3. Something that's used in the trade decision process but I haven't checked exactly how.

    4. The time in seconds until the next server check.

I assume that it receives the decision on whether to trade or not from the server, but I can't verify this without a valid license key.

At the URL below you will find a version of the script with a built-in license key which makes a request to http://www.microsoft.com instead of the EA server and which is modified in such a way as to assume the server always says "yes" to trading and also to allow backtesting. Feel free to play with the mq4 and add timeframe-based trading and figure out the settings using the live logs on the EA site. As it is, without time restrictions, the EA is surefire way to lose your account. If you add working time constraints, please post the updated mq4.

  4. Re: Decompile Dll Files

    Hi Guys

    I Have A Quistion

Does Anybody Know Is The way To decompile Dll Files?

    Sorry For My Bad English

    Thanks

You can use IDA from DataRescue, find it using a torrent search engine. However, if you have to ask this question, it's very unlikely that you will know what to do with the result. Just post the stuff here as bbrain said.

  5. Anyone with access to the various Oanda APIs willing to share them?

Is it even possible to use any of the Oanda APIs with a regular account or does the account have to be flagged as "API enabled"?

Has anyone thought about decompiling the Java version and transforming it into some kind of API?

  6. Re: Concept of portfolio - key for sucessful trading .

I couldn't agree more! Diversification is the key to success. The vital part is to choose EA's that trade completely different methods. If the systems are too similar, then market conditions that cause one of them to fail will also cause the second to fail.

I totally agree. I just wish MT4 had a way to interweave backtest data. For example, you might want to backtest fapturbo on three currency pairs at once for the same period of time - perhaps the drawdowns from one pair would be compensated by the other pairs...

  7. Re: Reverse Scalping

EAs with a reverse feature say quite a lot about the confidence of their programmer... I wouldn't even touch an EA with it. In the past, I tried modifying in this way several open source EAs that were constantly losing, but the results were really bad, due to the lack of a proper exit strategy.

  8. Re: Money from Forex?

It's such a pain watching your account balance decreasing in front of your eyes. And fears of losing a lot of money make me get out of trade too early.

I've never felt that way by trading demo.

Luckily I haven't losen so much money yet.

Tryng to find a better way to trade which would make me feel a bit more comfortable on live trading.

That, and the best advice I ever heard was: "only invest in forex what you can afford to lose". It's a very very bad idea to invest all your money thinking that you're going to be trading for a living. When you invest some money in forex, it helps to think of them as "money that's never gonna find their way back to me" instead of "money that's gonna bring me a fortune". Also, even if you think you've found the holy grail of forex don't make the mistake of taking a loan to invest. Just invest what you can and when you can. If you make 2000$ per month at your regular job, save 100-200$ per month for a while and only invest after several months. This will give you ample time to retest and consolidate your strategy, also to test it on a demo account. Don't rush, the market is still going to be there after a year and you're going to be a lot wiser in the meantime.

  9. Re: Should all EA seller provice live forward test

Actually, most EAs being sold perform great on historical data, which is the only reason a customer might want to buy them.

Since all the experienced oldschool traders recommend having a system, a set of rules you stick by when trading, it must be that they are already using such a system to be successful, and somehow it has to be possible to implement these rulesets in software. However, as other people pointed out, why would you want to sell such a working system? It's probably easier to find an investor if you have a working EA and not enough money to start it up.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to enforce the EA sellers to have forward testing attached. When they do have forward testing, check it several times to make sure it's not fake.

  10. Re: FX Market is Slowing! Forex Trading Volume Shrinks

here is an extract from a report that ive fond online, has it affected any of your trading?

Unfortunately the forex market has not escape the impact of global deleveraging and the failure of Lehman Brothers in 2008. Central banks from around the world have released their semi-annual foreign exchange surveys and based upon all of the reports, forex trading volume decreased significantly between April 2008 and April 2009. Investors large and small have reduced risk with carry trades unwound aggressively. The lack of participation may explain why the major currency pairs have been stuck in a range since the beginning of May. In New York for example, forex spot trading volume fell to the lowest level in more than 3 years.

London remains the most active forex trading center followed by NY and Tokyo. The EUR/USD is still the most actively traded currency pair by far.

Here are some stats (all of data is in billions of U.S. dollars):

    - Britain is the world’s biggest FX trading hub with over a third of global turnover.

    - Average daily turnover in forex products fell 20% since October 2008 to $1,356B, down 25% from April 2008

    - Majority of decline was attributed to less activity in spot FX which fell 28%

    - The most heavily traded currency pair was euro/dollar, which accounted for 32% of total turnover.

Personally, I haven't been trading since a while before the crisis began. However, I plan to restart soon. There are probably many others in the same situation.

  11. Re: pyramiding

    Hi,

I think take your profit and be happy. To not try to make huge cash :D

Playing with fire is dangerous ;)

He's mostly right in my opinion. Unless you have a proven technique and the proper lot sizes, it can be rather dangerous. Not even discussing martingale which is a sure-fire way to lose your account.
