It was held in connection with the constitutional reform proposed by the government of Matteo Renzi in 2014. The amendments proposed reducing in the number of senators in the parliament and transferring some of the powers to the regional councils and the president. The voting majority voted down the amendments. Renzi announced on Tuesday that will tender his resignation to Italian President Sergio Mattarella. This event had a significant impact on the financial world. Investors are now becoming more skeptical of the common European currency and other European assets.
