Interactive brokers is probably the cheapest around.... They may not have tools to develop strategies / etc. However, there are MANY third part tools that tie in. TradeStation is a decent compromise. Plus, if you have any kind of volume at all, it is basically free.

You can get free tick by tick intraday data at www.slickcharts.com
It's not real-time, but you can at least do some quality back-testing with it.

IB is excellent. I've been using them now for years with no complaints. They have the best commissions, the best execution I have seen around, and if you trade high enough volume, excellent support. Let me know if anyone has any specific questions, I can try to help.

I was following this for a while, but it had periods of extensive draw downs. I'd do some good due diligence before attempting to trade with real money.

What are you basing your analysis on? Most system traders try not to predict general market direction, but react based on some pattern formation / indicator / other principle. ALL in the context of excellent money management. Are you shorting the market now?

Are you solely using floor pivots to trade, or are you filtering using other criteria? I've found that if you get caught on a high momentum breakout / breakdown, that you can suffer substantial losses even with reasonable money management.

I personally haven't used it, but I have some colleagues who have. It is an expensive system. It has many variations, and can be very profitable.

I can answer for the E-Mini. Most serious traders who require liquidity trade between 9:30am and 4:15pm Eastern time. This is considered "Regular Session" for the E-mini futures. Volume is generally very thin otherwise.

I would definitely agree. Take your time and learn the "personality" of the market. It can save a lot of heartache down the line...
