Traders I know just use volume profile and/or expected move to set price targets, no need to make it a scientific study.

No, not exclusively, but they do help - it's just that at first some were suggesting they are the "holy grail" - which they may have been a couple of hundred years ago if you were trading rice on the Japanese commodity exchange. 😉
