Only reason is smaller positions not to trade big contracts like fdax, 6e and/or using strategies that average down/martingale.. But spreads are higher and there are execution delays/slippage and stuff if you produce money.

 

I think mt4 is used for bucketshops not doing honest business mainly, too

I'm sure mt4 is used only in the case of making an advantage for a broker's over the retail traders. There was a lot of information in many places in internet unhiding the real reason of developing this platform. If I was still interested in forex I'd rather to look around for LMAX for example (http://www.lmax.com/professional/access#fx) or multi platforms like PathFinder from http://www.fastbrokers.com/. Personally I have no experience with them, and 6-7 years ago I only traded forex with MBT using their API and my own front end. I can be wrong, as I don't know the current situation and the optimal conditions for trade forex, but choosing the mt4 as a main trading platform for other than long term style, seems to me a suicidal decision...

Like you stated there are plenty of negative incidences validating caution using the platform. It might have changed but maybe not a wise choice to use like you said.
