forex93
Anybody know what the difference is between mean reversion bands and bollinger bands?
mandiki
hie forex93 the formulas used to calculate the two bands are different. Bollinger Bands Technical Indicator (BB) is similar to Envelopes. The only difference is that the bands of Envelopes are plotted a fixed distance (%) away from the moving average, while the Bollinger Bands are plotted a certain number of standard deviations away from it. Standard deviation is a measure of volatility, therefore Bollinger Bands adjust themselves to the market conditions. When the markets become more volatile, the bands widen and they contract during less volatile periods. The Forex Mean Reversion Indicator calculates and displays a Mean (price) based on the Mean level (a Simple Moving Average) setting. It then calculates and displays two levels either side of the Mean – These levels are based on percentage movements derived from the current Average True Range (ATR) reading. forex93, 123fx and PSmith41

Loustar1
There are a few indicators of this type around - on backtest they look great but in realtime many of them don't actually have the candles touching reversion lines as you see them in history - this is because the rev or mean lines are constantly adjusting to price and may not connect in the present - would be interesting to see if this one is different

mandiki
There are a few indicators of this type around - on backtest they look great but in realtime many of them don't actually have the candles touching reversion lines as you see them in history - this is because the rev or mean lines are constantly adjusting to price and may not connect in the present - would be interesting to see if this one is different It is true that many indicators look good in hindsight coz they repaint the past but unfortunately you cannot make money going backwards on the charts.Just curious,do bollinger bands change position when the candles have closed. Hopefully the forex mean reversion indicator does not repaint. Seeing that it is a clickbank product it won't be long before it shows up on some of the forex product eshops. hankt80
I still think trend following systems win in long term if traded on larger tf.
