Hi Niftymover , Its my pleasure to help the most senior and honorable Silver member of Indo. The detailed instructions is below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

TradeStation versions

Some versions of TradeStation have the ability to read our data in "MetaStock" format. The "MetaStock" data format has had many revisions over the years. They are:

(i) Pre-1996 - Computrac/"MetaStock" format - supporting up to 255 securities per folder.

(ii) "MetaStock" 2000-securities-per-folder format - Introduced with MetaStock v6.5 around 1997.

(iii) Y2K-compatbile "MetaStock" 2000-securities-per-folder format - Introduced with MetaStock v6.52 in 1999.

(iv) "MetaStock" 6000-securities-per-folder format - Introduced with MetaStock v8 in 2002.

TradeStation 2000i only supports the first MetaStock format - i.e. only 255 securities per folder. Therefore TradeStation 2000i is only compatible with our SGX stock data, Futures Data and Forex data.

However, it is very disappointing that Omega Research have not updated their support of the MetaStock format since the early 1990s, considering that the product retailed for several thousand dollars. This means that TradeStation 2000i is NOT compatible with our ASX or US stock data, which has greater than 255 securities per folder.

In 2001, Omega Research Inc changed their name to TradeStation Technologies and went down a brokerage subscription model which had no support for third party data formats. However, in late 2005, TradeStation Technologies Inc. released version 8.1 Service Pack 1 which now supports the fourth format - i.e. 6000-securities-per-folder format. Therefore TradeStation v8.1 Service Pack 1 is compatible with all of our data. Note that TradeStation version 8.1 and above are only available through a brokerage subscription model.

Opening a chart with TradeStation v8.1 and above

Click the Symbol Lookup button on the toolbar as shown below:

#1 http://imgur.com/urSPO

Click the 3rd Party tab then click the add button as shown below:

#2 http://imgur.com/gMVom

In the Type select "MetaStock", in the prefix use a prefix that you will be able to use for the Chart Analsys/Radar Windows... eg for Futures, FUT, then click the Browse button as shown below:

#3 http://imgur.com/aZdPY

Select the data folder (eg. C:\Trading Data\Futures\Continuous Contracts\Back Adjusted) as shown below

#4 http://imgur.com/bQ6Kb

Select the symbol you wish to chart (e.g. US2__CCB) as shown below:

#5 http://imgur.com/TrEdw

You can then optionally change some of the settings for the security. For certain securities, such as Futures, it is a good idea to select the Future category and also the appropriate price scale for that security, as shown below. Then click Next and then Finish.

The first time you chart a 3rd party symbol, you may find that it tries to open up the chart as intraday when only daily data is available. This is shown with the message "Data requeset failed: Requested interval is not supported by this 3rd party symbol. Intraday requests annot be supported by files containing Daily data" as shown below:

#7 http://imgur.com/Wzbj2

To fix this click Format then Symbol as shown below:

#8 http://imgur.com/d1aUp

Change the interval to Daily, and in the range select a long period of history (eg. 40 years back). If you want this set as default for future chats, tick the Set as Default button, as shown below:

#9 http://imgur.com/ijJUP

Your chart will then show correct daily data in the right scale, as shown below

#10 http://imgur.com/Wc0YR

Opening a chart with TradeStation 2000i

Click File -> New -> Tradestation Chart

Select 3rd Party Directory

Click New Dir

In the directory put the path you want to search - eg. c:\Trading Data\Futures\Continuous Futures\Back Adjusted

Data Type: Metastock

TradeStation 2000i folder limitation and our Futures data

As outlined above, TradeStation 2000i can only read the first 255 securities in a “MetaStock” data folder. This creates a problem with our Futures data where a number of market folders contain more than 255 deliveries – e.g. Gold C, Silver C, Brent Oil, Crude Oil, Heating Oil etc. To work around this issue, DataTools can reduce the number of deliveries in market folders to a specified number by removing the oldest ones first. To do this, click Program Utilities -> Reduce Number of Securities in Folders.

Note: New delivery months are added all the time, so you may need to run this utility periodically to ensure that folders are kept beneath the 255 limit.

If you prefer not to truncate your market histories, please upgrade to a later version of TradeStation, or view the Continuous Contracts instead.

In TradeStation v8.1 and above, my futures chart shows pricing in 1/100 Price units - how do I change this to fractions such as 1/32s?

TradeStation stores information about the units to be used within a file callled attributes.ini, which is placed into each MetaStock folder. Once a chart has been opened, you are unable to change the units within TradeStation. However, you can edit the attributes.ini file, then remove the entry for the security that is showing the wrong units, then follow the steps in the FAQ item "Opening a chart with TradeStation v8.1 and above".

Decimal Places in TradeStation 2000i

By default, TradeStation 2000i displays data up to to 3 decimal places. If you are looking at certain futures contracts or forex prices, these are often priced down to four or more decimal places. You need to make two changes to show the correct number of places on a chart and also have your indicators use the full accuracy of the data.

Step 1: Charts

To get around this limitation, click View then Chart Options, click the Symbol tab, then untick the "Display MetaStock data 1/1000 for new charts". Close down any open charts and open them again and you will now see them down to 5 decimal places, as shown below:

#11 http://imgur.com/dBEQ6

Step 2: Minimum Move

To ensure that your indicators and formulae work correctly, you will also need to modify the "minimum move" value. When you open a new chart, click the "Universe" button and change the "Min Move" to 0.0001 as shown below:

I am using TS8.1 for quite a long time using MetaStock EOD data. To use MetaStock EOD Data, please follow the following and let me know if you have any difficulties, I will try to solve that.

1. Create a "Note Pad" and save as “attributes.ini” in the data directory where in the in the 1st line put

Symbol,Date Format,Category,Exchange,Session 1 Start Time,Session 1 End Time,Session 1 Days,Price Scale,Minimum Movement,Daily Limit ,Big Point Value

In the second line put

DEFAULT,mm/dd/yyyy,Stock,DSE,1000,1400,UMTWRFS,1/100,1,65000,10000

(To create the “attributes.ini” file you can copy those two above lines also) . The 1st

line is default, can do changes in the second line, where necessary.

2. Follow other rules for formatting 3rd party data as outlined in help instructions.

(Being not allowed to reply PM, I am posting here)

Hi all,

sorry for my question but I'm becoming mad in importing Metastock EOD data in TS.

I read all related posts, and followed your indications: thanks to your indications I obtained a first success: I compiled the file attributes.ini and now I am able to choose a simble and obtained a plot...The great problem now is that this plot is useless (I setted daily period), in the sense that I've only one long bar (its values are the high of the whole period I considered, some years, and the minimum of the same period); in the x scale I've no indication of time (day, month, hour o something else, it has not intestation)

Can you help me, I don't know how to face it!!!!

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply.

I've TS8.7 on win7, and I'm trying to use third part EOD data in Metastock format. I obtain EOD data downloading them from free web services, I can use them in Metastock without any problem, but when I try to use them in TS I have the previous problem. I begin to think that the problem is in the data, in some post I read about the presence of a MASTER file in the same folder of the file attributes.ini, but I can't find this file in the Metastock data folder. I'll try another source for free EOD data, like quuotedownloader, to see if the problem is that. Thanks
