help, ea with ema cross,rsi

Recommended Posts

Hi edgar,

There have been stacks of EAs created in the past to trade MA crosses and RSI or MA crosses, RSI and stochs etc.

A bit of Googling shows that these threads die off quite quickly. The simple reason for this is that it's not possible to create a profitable EA which works from something as simple as MA crosses and one or more confirmation indicators.

Despite what confirmation indicators you use, the lagging nature of the MA cross (and waiting for the closed candle) means that you end up taking lots of small losses in non-trending markets, which on the chart are visually deceptive as they often appear to be more like breakeven trades. The worst possible market for these sort of systems is where we see large swings back and forth rather than tight ranging - in these cases the EA will have some big losers. All these losing trades are never totally offset by the occasional big winners you get in a trending market.

If you're trading EMA cross and RSI manually and consistently successfully using the method you describe then you must be using some additional critera to select trades. These additional criteria would need to be built into any EA too, to give it a fighting chance of being profitable.

Note that if you've been trading this system on higher timeframes only over the past couple of months, that you should look back to Jan/Feb this year at least. Prices were ranging a lot more at that time than they are now - how would your system have worked then ? Not too good I suspect.
