CBrownell
I would like a good Trend EA... any ideas? One for short term and one for longer term or one that does any timeframe. I have read many posts here but haven't found the right post I guess. Thanks
tomislav
I use ForexSTF (standard version) on 5 minute TF (Manual says to use it on 1 minute). It is an EA that I trust 100%. Hardly any draw down. On this current up trend it has placed 3 trades. First one over 300 pips. It won't trade often but that's fine because the EURUSD isn't always trending. CBrownell
Thanks... what about too.. just a Trend Indicator for manual trading? I like to do manual trading for larger profits...

tomislav
There are a few previous threads on forexstf (just type in "forexstf" in the search engine). Some negative comments but all from people who haven't tried it on 5 minute time frame. It's more like an indicator because I'm not sure if it closes trades so I've been closing all of mine manually. The biggest DD I've ever had is about 25-38 pips. I've been using it for about 4 months... beautiful. For me it's the ideal trend EA and is a keeper. Manual trading for larger profits? I once had a trade on STF that hit 380+ pips when demoing in the beginning... Sounds good to me. Excalibur 3.6 is another excellent long term trade EA. It's also available on this forum. PipPip_Hurray
Excalibur 3.6 is another excellent long term trade EA. It's also available on this forum. Wow - you are not kidding? As one blogger put it: "Excalibur EA was like plunging back into the lake of no return. It has not been doing that well and have not found a statement which shows interesting results. And on top of that, it was really expensive." Are you using any special settings? Thank you for sharing your insights!
tomislav
EURUSD 30 minute version is rubbish. The daily version has paced a trade for this current uptrend on EURUSD. Bit of playing around with the TP. I had to input 5000 for 500 TP even though I inputted 5 digit broker true. All I know it has placed a long trade at the right time and is still going up. The main thing with long term trades is knowing when to close them. Edited October 5, 2010 by tomislav

⭐ fxknight
Here is the real X_Calibur 3 point 6 used in the backtests of EURUSD M30. Make sure you put the indicator filter in the \Indicators directory. My comments: Despite the good 2010 EURUSD M30 backtest The XCal 3 point 6 EA is pure thrash. It cannot pick its nose even before year 2008. Run a backtest on 2001-2007 and you will see the account evaporate. I would guess this is a highly optimized EA but I did not look at the code so I cannot make that statement for sure. Just an assumption based on the backtest results. http://www.multiupload.com/38HHPYZLTR Good luck Edited October 4, 2010 by fxknight

halcyonn
Pro and FxKnight thanx! its an optimised ea no doubt.there are optimisable inputs in it. Pro,you may well be right that a low modelling quality and mismatched errors make the backtest worthless. will see if i can get a better backtest without mismatched errors and better modelling quality! cheers!! CBrownell
Phreaks download may work perfect but my PC is tapped out on Rapidshare... can we get another site? It continually says I need Rapidshare Pro to use that site from my IP addy. Course, I could change IPs... :) Tomislav, thanks... got the Excalibur... it's only thre Rapidshare that is giving me trouble I guess. CBrownell
I have a few questions on Excalibur... it says to put the ex4 into the INDICATOR file? yes? Also, do you need to keep a blank chart of each pair open EUR/USD, USD/CHF, GBP/USD ... the doc's claim that the indicator will would auto.. but do we need to have the chart at least open? and what time frame or does it matter? PipPip_Hurray
With all due respect, I think this Forex-STF EA is a piece of crap. Either the guy cannot code or the versions were from demos that were intentionally disabled for certain functions like 4/5 digit broker, TP, SL, and Trailing. He got them all wrong, and no wonder it didn't work. I fixed the code and tested it a bit with Dukascopy tick data. It uses a stoploss of 225 pips and can hang in there for a long time. There may be some settings that are slightly profitable, for example on H1 when you use a more reasonable SL of 35 and a TP of about 100 pips, and let it trail with 25 pips. I couldn't get anything profitable on M5. I tried the 'advanced' crap EA. The backtest is actually a scalper with TP=5 and SL=500 !!!! haha... The default settings of TP=25 and SL=225 were also not profitable. Even if, who would really want to use a RR of 1:10? The whole thing looks like a cheap scam. Thank you for bringing in this EA, you never know. But if you use this for trend recognition, you are really taking your chances. Happy Trading :) tomislav

I forward test and then put to using real money. I emailed Donna Forex about using Forex STF (standard version-advanced version is crap) on 5 minute chart because on 1 minute TF it would lose. She replied saying that the developers of Forex STF have told her it's much better on a 5 minute chart. Have some herbal tea and try some forward testing. Only problem is you might have to wait weeks for a trade. It wont happen overnight... but it will happen :)>- Here is a screen shot from today 21st Oct 2010. I'm surprised when people doubt info from this forum because no-ones trying to sell anything... I'm actually surprised more DD than previous trades. Early into the trade. http://img515.imageshack.us/i/forexstfrealmoneytrade.gif/ Edited October 21, 2010 by tomislav
