Anyway, I needed my VPS for other reasons also, like being able to turn my computer off for maintenance, or being able to handle 5 day power failures, or viewing trades while on vacation, etc

 

VPS is the way to go in my opinion. In my case, I run one myself.

 

For security reasons, I run Windows XP in a virtual machine on a 64-bit Linux box that is firewalled. From there, I can use VNC to log into it, and access the virtual machine inside when necessary.

The server itself has a LOT of memory, so I could theoretically run another instances of WinXP if I had to. I allocate the maximum amount of memory to the WinXP (about 3.5GB). I don't have 64-bit XP unfortuantely.

 

I would run Metatrader under WINE in linux, except that I worry that it's less stable.

 

The only problem with VPS is that sometimes your platform will lose it's connection to the broker's server and sometimes it won't reconnect without giving it a kick. Go markets has been guilty of this lately as they've been doing maintenance.

Yes, I notice the same thing. Sometimes I cannot connect to my VPS if the RAM gets used up. I need to manually reboot all my MT4s within my VPS at least once a day, otherwise they eat up all the RAM. Another problem is that sometimes my router will block my access to the VPS, and I will have to reboot the router, then everything works fine again.

 

Yes, I notice that some XPVPS services are a little cheaper to rent because they don't pay a license fee. Also, XP is quite stable. I purchased a 64 bit XP server machine to keep in my home, but because my DSL line kept going down, the VPS didn't help much. Also, my batteries will only keep my home VPS running for just a few hours during a power failure.

 

It is also important to select a VPS location that is closest to the brokerages you use the most. Many VPS services now offer multiple locations, in several countries, which makes a big difference in trade execution speeds. For example, using a New York VPS for a New York Broker, or a UK VPS for a UK Broker, etc. ;)

What's your set up to get this many trades? You're obviously changing the trading hours... anything else?

I'm guessing this is demo, because live doesn't get you that many trades (due to spreads of course)

I pretty much do the same thing except I use IpCop for my FireWall, Then a Windows Terminal Server behind that.. I log into the terminal server remotely (only 1 port open on the internet) and then run VNC to my cheap laptops I get off eBay.. I have about 7 or 8 laptops running XP and MT4 and thats all they run.. Been stable for well over a year.. I may have an internet outage once every month or so.. But I have noticed that now that the kiddies are back in School that my ISP connection has gotten a lot more stable.. I have 2 UPS spread amonst the stuff and have pulled the plug and every thing stayed up for over an hour on battery (remember each trader laptop also has a battery, thats why I luv um).. The longest power outage I have seen in the last 2 years has been about 45 minutes, but I didnt go down.. But you never know.. Always keep your brokers phone number where you can get to it..

 

I think the longest trade time I have seen to complete was 3 seconds or something like that (I'm talking LIVE account, not demo).. Do you really need faster times in MT4 on ping test.. Probably a better reason to be "Closer" to your broker is more for possible internet outage on Trans Atlantic Cables and such.. But then you better pray your EA is a good one and could run for sure without adult supervision.. I mean if your in Chicago and the VPS is in France and the channels to France go down for whatever reason Then you cant get there to turn the EA off or manage.. I like the idea better of having my stuff out in my garage and a post-it-note with account info stuck on each machine (and hope I can get in touch with my broker somehow).. But thats just me.. And do you REALLY know that you can trust your VPS provider.. Especially someone in France you never met.. At least with your broker you MIGHT have a little more regulations and such to protect you.. But with a VPS in another country you are basically giving them the keys to the house if they want to use them.. And you can bet you bottom they are selling the info generated from all the different accounts trades.. I would..

 

You notice that EA's I get involved in I usually add a LOG file option.. The reason is to document every trade in depth.. Something MT4 byself it self is not good at..

 

And you dont really need Windows 64 if Mt4 is all your runnin on the trade machines (real or virtual).. Mt4 is actually pretty good at overhead.. All my trader laptops have 768 meg ram except 1 or 2 that have 1 gig.. dont need much more than that.. Its the crappy EA's that hit the fan; that have rotten code in them.. We have all seen EA's now that have terrible code in them.. And eat up your cpu.. Whereas we've seen EA's that barely make a dent in the Task Manager.. Some EA's double load every indicator they use.. Whats up with that.. Ive actually seen very few EA's that calculate the open trade lot size correctly. You normally see one of three different ways to calculate the trade lot size wrong.. There are a lot of Script Kiddies out there that just cut and paste the same junk code Over and Over and Over...

i don't know if it really worth to rent a VPS for mt4 platform. I have a PC that run my mt4 live account for 2 years and I never got a problem. Stable old PC with UPS. I don't think that Mt4 use much CPU, even with 25 charts, each running an EA.

CPU consuption is a matter with strategy tester, especially optimisation. I noticed that it's more faster with x64 OS. So I just built a new PC, with I7 920 overcloked to 3.9 ghz and 12 Gb high quality RAM on Vista x64, I run 4 instances of MT4 and start 3 or 4 optimisation during night. No problem so far

I'm not sure yet. there is news at the next trading session of EA which has "Medium impact" on Yen pairs. Probably I will shut down only yen pairs. if not I will monitor the trades and close them manually before 7:50 EST.

i was trading with tadawulfx live for a couple of month using Fapturbo and md1.11. result was very bad. i had to close my account and transfer my money to another broker last month. i suggest you to be careful while you use scalper and use the minimum lot size. although its was bad just for scalping,,swing trades was good and also withdrawal was fast(2 days).

i was trading with tadawulfx live for a couple of month using Fapturbo and md1.11. result was very bad. i had to close my account and transfer my money to another broker last month. i suggest you to be careful while you use scalper and use the minimum lot size. although its was bad just for scalping,,swing trades was good and also withdrawal was fast(2 days).

I can't tell which one is best yet, this is too short testing period... So far I was only removing some of them because they either have very bad results or they are not respectable because of different things or some just don't support scalping on basic accounts.

I started new testing accounts on september because I removed some pairs last week and so I can get clear results at the end.

yes I got lots of requotes.and their data feed was not good.there was no volatility at the time scalper is working and i think this is the major cause of failure for scalper using tadawulfx. platform as you may experienced yourself is stable. i was trading EUR/CHF EUR/USD EUR/GBP and USD/CAD for scalping with fapturbo and GBPUSD for swing trading. lot size was 0.1 (1 pip=1 dollar) for scalping as i always was unsure about the result.

I had a chance for 1 day to put MDpro into tadawulfx and my new broker(PFG) and compare the result. pfg opened 4 trade with 4 different pairs all winner while tadawulfx opened just 2 trade, one breakeven and one(usd/jpy) hit SL. both live and exactly same setting. tadawulfx lost the game and i withdraw my money next day.

yeah me too. It was working fine up until about a week ago and hasn't traded since (live with Alpari UK). I'm beginning to wonder if I have changed some settings by mistake but I've checked everything and can't spot anything.

 

Tonight I've changed from v1_00ee2x to the latest _XE version but still nothing.

 

Maybe it's these new sucky floating spreads that Alpari have introduced :(

IMHO don't use Alpari UK for night scalping EAs... it kills your EAs with its WILD (not only WIDE) spreads!!!
