How To Download Embedded SWFs (e.g. Camtasia videos)

On some web pages you may be lucky and can download the file after changing .html to .swf

 

If this doesn't work, the free firefox add-in DownloadThemAll usually works by displaying embedded downloadable video links.

 

But, this may only download a video container (small swf), not the real file. In this case you need to find the config.xml file to get the name of the real video swf (See below).

Alternate option is to run a packet sniffer across applicable card scanning for media files with suffix swf. Useful when link is obfuscated or not viewable in source.

I prepared a pdf explaining in detail what to do.

As the example, I used links to ultimate swing trader videos, which some ppl here found difficult to download.

Like other players, realplayer will only play what it downloads. You have to go on a hunting exercise once you've found the container.

I have downloaded a lot of Camtasia videos with this plugin.

I use firefox under Tools>Page Info>Media. Scroll down the addresses one by one and to look for the one with *.swf extension. Then press the " Save as " button.... you got it!

1) I use firefox , and install extension called "Video Download Helper" , If u open site with embed flash , like swf camtasia, / any tube. click the flashing icon

2) Install flashgot , will intercept any download (change some option in flashgot to any download intercept by flashgot

3) Install free download manager (any download manager will do, but why buy if free ones available (oh i'm such a cheap bastard)
