longboat Posted February 15, 2017 Report Share Posted February 15, 2017 Price moves too fast. You will burn out trying to watch the dom every day to try and get 2-4 ticks. Just my opinion. I think it is possible to scalp off the DOM on slow thick markets such as the bonds, but I can't do it. Forget about trying to watch a thin market like CL. Orders move too fast. Well, I haven't went through this course yet but I think that's valuable to learn how to read the DOM, whatever your trading style is. It gives you the chance at least to refine entries and reduce risk. Last year I've met a guy who trades for a firm and he said that he wasn't even allowed to watch a chart at the beginning. You don't need to wath the DOM all the day..just when the market enter an "area of interest". This guy uses a strategy (I've a pending request for this strategy here: http://indo-investasi.com/showthread.php/28309-Trading-Advantage-Course-Currencies) which involve the use of some specific levels..he trades this level using confirmation from orderflow he reads on the DOM. He trades intraday with very small risk like 6-8 ticks and go for much more like intraday swings. So DOM trading is not necessarily only for scalping I guess... I watched a Joel Parker's tape reading course somehow. he uses simple T&S mostly, but watches DOM occasionally too, mostly when trading commodities.
