I'd really like to learn more about the manual trading refinements that Harsh124 has done to filter out the choppy periods when all the losses happen.

 

If his friend was able to trade $600 to $800,000 in 3 months with only a 4% drawdown, he must have been able to filter out almost all of the bad trade setups. If we conservatively guess that he risked 2% per trade that means he never had more than 2 losses in a row. I think if he only risked 1% per trade that would have built his equity too slow and if he risked 4% that would mean he never lost more than 1 trade in a row. Outstanding results in any case.

 

Harsh124 has clearly said that the EA effort didn't work out so I think we should focus on refining the manual trading that resulted in him making $150K in his account. I have spent a lot of time, looked at countless strategies and filtering out all chop is like the impossible holy grail but maybe we can learn to filter out most of it.

 

Maybe if we ask nicely harsh124 can offer some tips to better manually trade his system. Thank you Harsh124.

If you look at the bottom panel of the chart when the vertical bars are a different color from fxsmooth (the zig zag looking line) or ma adaptive rsi, price is not trending. So the indicators looks like a good ranging filter if they do not repaint.

Your teacher must have been successful for a long time using his system for him to build his account to trade 40 lots. So it would be very interested in learning more details about his trading method and MM.

Personally I do not think I can trade with such high leverage successfully, but I would be interested in finding out if there is anything here I can learn that would help my own trades.

 

Musketeer had nearly 80% winners scalping 160 trades. Learning how he achieved that is something I think would be helpful to all of us.

 

A few years ago when Felix (of forexpeacearmy now) first started his news trading, he advised members with Oanda accounts not to trade more than $500K or 5 standard lots to stay under their radar. The news trading was similar to scalping because you are in and out of trades quickly sometimes in just a few seconds. Some members ignored the warning trading more than $500K and got kicked out by Oanda. My point is that if you trade smaller lot sizes maybe the brokers will leave you alone when you scalp.

 

By reducing the lot size to suit your risk tolerance you can also offset high leverage. Instead of increasing your account 96 times in just 9 hours like Musketeer did, reducing the lot size and just doubling my account every day (or every few days) would keep me happy. :)

 

The key though is understanding how Musketeer trades and the setups he looks for to achieve the 80% wins. We can handle the MM ourselves. Maybe if enough of us ask Musketeer he would kindly show us how he enter/exits his trades and the discretion he uses.

Musketeer, can you please give us some chart examples of your trades? Were you looking for particular setups on 1M and entering as soon as the tick chart showed price moving in your direction?

If you google fxvirus88 you can see a similar post he made in forexindo dot com forum. Translator does not do a good job but the posts might give a clue to someone who speaks Indonesian how he trades.

 

Fxvirus88's chart showed he made 43 winning trades in a row in about 5 hours. So it would be very interesting to see his trading strategy. CMIIW I don't believe the stealth or Oan system can come close to 100% wins of 5 pips like that or signal that many trades in 5 hours. If anyone knows of a system that can duplicate fxvirus88's performance please post it here.

Maybe things like this can help your trading by keeping you in a positive expectation mindset. Even if just helps a little it still can mean extra money to us.

Does anyone have another version of Range Bars (for MT4) where the open of the bar equals the close of the prior bar similar to what appears on the NT platform? Or could anyone please modify the version posted here in this thread so that it does?

 

In the current MT version there is a one pip gap between range bars which I want eliminated. For example in a strong uptrend using a 5 pip range bar it will not print the bar on the chart until there is a 6 pip up move. So you are always one pip late if you are waiting for the current bar to close before taking a trade.

 

I have searched this forum for "range bars" and tested every version (a few had dead links) but it seems they all have the one pip gap.

 

I think constant range bars (not so much Renko) can help almost every trading system (except multi time frame applications) by reducing the effects of noise or consolidations. Everyone that is using range bars could benefit if a version could be found with no gap or if someone can recode the current version.

There are some indicators shown on one of the charts called S_TSKPFast, S_TSKPSnap-Back, S_TSKPMedium that look very good in filtering out choppy periods. They are shown on video #6 (Momentum a) at 2:25 minutes into the video. Do you have these indicators for MT4 or know where I can find them?

When you look at his posted trading record he has no losses. It is either an extraordinarily good trading system worth the high price or he is a complete liar. He is highly leveraged using just $300 to trade 1 lot.

 

Take a look at his trading record and see what you think. I know the first thought is that it's not true but if it is then you could retire in a short time.

We all know how most commercial systems are overhyped showing cherry picked charts and will lose most of your money during choppy ranging periods. No one wants to endure losing days/weeks/months.

 

Of the many hundreds of members here, there must be someone who knows of a very good trading system that is consistently profitable over the long term. It might be a system that is not well known or commercialized. We do not want to get into a debate over trying to find the "holy grail" or how it's the trader and not the system. Just tap into the knowledge of all the members and mods here to find the best system to purchase and share with us.

 

This way you will not waste your money or valuable time learning a mediocre system.

I made 80 trades and 80 wins. I wasn't looking at the M15 so missed that opportunity for doubling that profit.

 

As it was, $25K+ on a 100K account in an hour or so.

I would very much like for Merlin to come back and teach us his trading system with any new developments he has made since his last post.

 

Everyone likes to say there is no Holy Grail. But this comes very close if he can make 80 consecutive winners and 25% increase in account size.

 

Rather than look at every new system and indicator that seems to fail during choppy periods, we should focus on a winner like this one. Perhaps if a small group of us can show serious interest Merlin may be willing to teach us.

That sure is disappointing to read that practically no one makes a living trading woodies cci including Woody himself. Do you think the system fails too much to be long term profitable? Because it looks good during trending periods but loses it all back during choppy periods?

Do you have any special techniques to avoid choppy or ranging periods when the most losses happen?

 

Depending on your setting of the HA it can be the equivalent to a 3MA. So this strategy would be like trading the cross of 3MA and 32MA. I know the standard things like trading market opening hours or overlaps helps when there tends to be more volatility and less consolidation. But have you found anything really good that helps avoid the losses during choppy times?

You should always test a system in demo first. If the system doesn't work, you don't lose money.

 

What I meant is that many people can win on a demo account but lose on a real account for a variety of reasons including psychology of trading real money vs. fake, dishonest broker manipulating MT4's dealer backdoor, differences on spread, good fills on demo but not on real account, etc. especially if you are scalping.

 

Of course you can start on demo but the true test of a system is forward testing on a real account. On Oanda you can trade using variable lot sizes even one cent pips so you don't lose much trading in a live account.
