  • Block Program Activation Using Windows Host file

I've been using a small free program called hostess that edits the Windows host file. The host file is somewhat like a firewall in that it can block outgoing requests from programs that you are running. With the correct URL for the program you are running, you can block the program's request to contact its publisher's website for license verification.

I just use Notepad text editor. The trick is to save-as "hosts" then shift+enter keys. Easy peasy.

I don't know what the URL for Amibroker or Amiquote is. If you find a URL that works in the host file, let us know.

Thanks. Has this been tested for using AmiQuote? If we put this into the host file, can we use AmiQuote to download stock quotes and not get a license error?

Does this block every web browser or just Internet Explorer? Have you tried it using FireFox or GoogleChrome?
