Tick charts or minute charts?

Recommended Posts

Re: Tick charts or minute charts?

minute is ore reliable as with any longer timeframe

Well, I don't think that eqqismar necessarily meant a 1-tick chart, but tick charts in general, as 89, 233 or whatever ticks. So I wouldn't subscribe that statement that a minute chart is more reliable.

Sometimes trends are easier spotted in tick charts. Furthermore indicators often work a lot better in charts that are not time based. Also have a look at range and renko bars!

But as you said, it all depends on personal preference. In my opinion there is no better or worse.

Re: Tick charts or minute charts?

Tick data is only useful in a real-time environment. It is less than useless in back testing because it moves dramatically up and down within the M1 time frame.

Different brokers will have different tick data, so different things can happen within a M1 time frame, depending on the broker.

That is why it can be difficult to compare broker against broker.

Complete M1 data will only show the OHLC, which should be common to all brokers for that currency (unless it has been manipulated :-? ).
