Once the range requirement is reached, the first tick to break outside that range will begin a new bar (and become the opening price of that new bar). Each bar opens at a price outside of the high/low range of the previous bar. And each bar closes at either it's high or it's low. Each bar has a high/low range equal to the range specified. The high/low range of a bar can exceed the range specified in certain situations (gaps) but can never be less that the range specified. Each bar opens outside the high/low range of the previous bar. Each bar closes at either it's high or it's low. With Range Bars (and Change Bars), a new bars is only formed when price is moving. When prices gets stuck in a tight range for an extended period of time, horizontal screen real estate is not wasted with multiple bars that would have formed had the periodicity been volume or time driven. Still there was nothing showed up since there was no update for 1 hour on the 2 min chart. however, I saw a video explaining about the range bar and on that chart there was a moving average or a trend show indicating when to buy or to sell. That means if the candles went under that curve or moving average, so it is a sign of selling, and vice versa. a777 Posted May 13, 2010 Report Share Posted May 13, 2010 Does anyone have another version of Range Bars (for MT4) where the open of the bar equals the close of the prior bar similar to what appears on the NT platform? Or could anyone please modify the version posted here in this thread so that it does? In the current MT version there is a one pip gap between range bars which I want eliminated. For example in a strong uptrend using a 5 pip range bar it will not print the bar on the chart until there is a 6 pip up move. So you are always one pip late if you are waiting for the current bar to close before taking a trade. I have searched this forum for "range bars" and tested every version (a few had dead links) but it seems they all have the one pip gap. I think constant range bars (not so much Renko) can help almost every trading system (except multi time frame applications) by reducing the effects of noise or consolidations. Everyone that is using range bars could benefit if a version could be found with no gap or if someone can recode the current version. Thank you.
